For Arbor Day: If A Tree Falls in A Forest, Do You Hear It?

Our Beloved Elm Tree

We have beutiful and beloved Elm tree on our property. She as a double truck, 80 feet tall, and probably 75-100 years of age. Every year we have the aroborist feed her so she does not get Dutch Elm disease. I always complimnet her when I am in the backyard. Because she has a double trunk, I think of Jordan and I in a loving embrace of life!

A Horrible Sound

On Sunday, I was sitting in my kitchen and her a loud whooshing. It sounded like an airplane in our backyard. I looked out the window and saw a huge branch from the elm tree on the ground. It did not hit the large spruce tree. Sadly, it did hit and broke our beautiful pink  saucer magnolia (Magnolia x soulangeana) tree.

Thanks to our wonderful arborist, Joaquin Gonzalez, who owns JBS tree care service. Joaquin’s crew cared for broken tree branch, yesterday, right after I called Joaquin with my sad news. Blue Brain individuals love nature. Naturally my Blue Brain and Heart were extremely sad to watch the tree being trimmed and the limbs being chopped, but we were grateful that no one was injured.

Extremely Sad to Lose A Tree

We were extremely sad to lose such a huge limb of our tree. However we are grateful that the rest of the tree was not damaged. Joaquin said he would come back in the winter to trim the Elm tree, becuase Elm trees should be trimmed in the cold weather.

Arbor Day

Today is Arbor Day and the 150 anniversary of Arbor Day, in the United States. Arbor Day is a non-religioius observance that is celebrated all over the world by individuals and groups planting trees to help the environment and sustainably protect our planet’s natural resources. We are celebrating all our trees, especially our Elm tree who we care for, love, and appreciate for her beauty that graces our backyard.

Closing Thought

Question: “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” The answer is “Yes”, when a “love”ly tree in a little forest on the edge of your backyard experiences the tragedy of a huge limb breaking off, on a windy day, you do hear the sad sound that your tree echoes.
