Does handwriting imprint on your Brain?

The purpose of handwriting
Many of you might remember learning to write cursive in the 3rd grade. I remember teaching cursive to my 3rd grade student.
Some people believe we taught cursive to you so you could write a check. However, that was not the reason. We taught curse to increase our student’s hand and eye coordination and development!
What is cursive?
The term Cursive comes the Latin word currere. For those of you who did not take Latin class, Cursive actually means “to run.” When an individual writes in Cursive, they do not lift their hand off the paper and each word “runs” into the next across the page.
Videos and studies about handwriting vs. using a keyboard
I enjoyed watching the video How handwriting benefits your brain | Neuropsychologist Dr. Audrey van der Meera. You also might enjoy a shorter video about handwriting.
My Yellow Educator Brain went crazy!
I have always given my What Color Is Your Brain?® workshop and progam attendees hanouts or workbooks to write in and to imprint their Yellow, Blue, Green, or Orange Brain Color knowledge on their Brain! Yesterday, I was speaking with a client who told me people would be using their smart phone at the PMI Chicagoland Chapter – 2025 PM Symposium on October 10th. My Yellow Educator Brain went crazy when I listened to that statement.
Why I prefer handwriting on handouts
Then I explain to my client why I needed to use my handout; and how critical it would be for attendees to write in their handout to stimulate their Brain, so the information would be imprinted on their Brains! He understood and assured me that my handout would be printed and available for the attendees.
I might be old fashion
I might be old fashion or old school about my handout. However, I want my workshop attendees to have the most beneficial experience, when they are attending my program. Technology is grand. However, the old fashion means of writing by hand to complete their handouts is a much better way of learning, stimulating their brains, and immprinting the Brain Color facts on their Brains!
Closing Thought
Remsmber, when you are taking notes, composing a shopping list, or drafting a message for someone, that best way to do that is putting a pen or pencil to a sheet of paper and writing to imprint your thoughts and words on your Brain!
