An Important “Must Read” Statin Warning for National Diabetes Month!

National Diabetes Month
November is National Diabetes Month. It is a month to acknowledge all the inviduals and families that live with and deal with the 24/7 challenges of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. Our family has lived through both of those challenges.
Statin Drugs and Diabetes
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) Standard of Care “recommends statin therapy for individuals with diabetes aged 40–75, regardless of their LDL cholesterol level, to prevent atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).
For those at higher risk, a high-intensity statin is recommended, while a moderate-intensity statin is a minimum for those at lower risk in this age group.
Primary prevention in adults aged 40–75:
- Moderate-intensity statin therapy: This is recommended for all individuals with diabetes in this age range as a baseline, in addition to lifestyle changes.
- High-intensity statin therapy: This is recommended for individuals with higher cardiovascular risk factors, such as multiple ASCVD risk factors, an LDL of ≥70 mg/dL, or a family history of prematureASCVD. The goal is to reduce LDL cholesterol by ≥50% and reach a target of <70mg/dL>.
- Adults < 40 years old: Statin therapy may be reasonable if the individual has multiple ASCVD risk factors, especially if their LDL cholesterol is >100mg/dL.”
Some Risks
Now, that you have read what the ADA proposes, PLEASE note that in the statin drug literature, the American Diabetes Association, and the Juvenile Diabets Reseach Foundation, now known as
Breakthrough T1D, websites and/or newlsetters, DO NOT WARN PEOPLE. Individuals are possibly told about the FDA has added safety information to statin labels (package inserts) about risks like increased blood sugar (hyperglycemia) and development of type 2 diabetes. Drugs.com+2School of Pharmacy+2
1.There are warnings about memory loss or cognitive impairment (e.g., confusion, forgetfulness), though in many reported cases these were reversible after stopping the drug. Drugs.com+1
2. There are warnings regarding liver injury: the FDA noted that serious liver injury is “rare” with statins. Drugs.com
3. There are warning about some muscle damage: some statins can interact with other drugs and increase the risk of myopathy (muscle problems).
Dangerous Side Effects and Deadly Adverse Reactions
However, NO one tells patients about the Dangerous Side Effects and Adverse Reactions of Statin drugs! The Drug Companies and Doctors do not warn patients about Depression, Suicide, and Cognative Decline! Patients are not informed that some Statins can cross their Blood Brain Barrier, which protects their Brain!!

How Do I Know This Information?
Tragically, I know this information because our beloved eldest son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 15 years of age. When he was 40 years of age, a Statin was prescribed for him by his doctors. He did not have heart disease, but his maternal grandfather did.
8 years later, our beloved son was dead!
I had been sending 10% of my book royalties to JDRF since 1997 becasue of our son. After our son’s death, I asked the Chicagoland JDRF Exectutive Director to post a WARNING ABOUT STATINS on their website for National Diabetes Awareness Month, to help their members. She refused!
To honor our son’s life and memory, I told her I could not longer send them a portion of my royalties. I realize the organization cared more about the money, I was donating, than warning their members. The old saying says, “You only know what people want to do, not by what they say, but what they do or do not do!“
Closing Thought
Please know, I am not telling you what to do. I am only giving you a WARNING/AWARENESS! Statin are not for everyone and they can be dangerous and deadly. I have spoken to many people (especially those with T1D) who have told me they have stopped taking statin drugs because of the side effects and adverse reaction (depression, anxiety, painful muscle cramps, brain fog).
If you have diabetes, or if you do not have diabetes…Please, do you home work and read about a statin before you take one, even thought statins are one of the most prescribed drugs in the world. A STATIN, MAY NOT BE A “HEALTHY DECISION” FOR YOU!
