Does the planning, anticipation and/or experience of a family vacation bring you Cheers or Tears?

Attempting to please everyone can be an exhausting task. If you recognize the different Brain Colors in your family you will enhance your enjoyment and alleviate the stress of traveling together.
Yellow Brainers arrange for well-planned vacations. They may hire a guide or participate in a group tour. If not, they do their homework ahead of time, plan the entire trip, and become the tour guide. Suitcases are packed in advance. They also enjoy an all-inclusive destination. They have checked with AAA and purchased every map they will need for route A and alternative route B. They know the location of, and have a schedule for, every rest, fuel, or food stop and point of interest. They feel appreciated when they make their family members feel well cared for.
Blue Brainers love family reunions with lots of opportunities to talk with their relatives. They enjoy helping to get all their belongings ready and packed for their time together. They enjoy a homey atmosphere where everyone can chat with the proprietor and other guests in small inns, bed & breakfasts, or campsites. On a driving trip, they like to stop along the way to spend time with friends or family members. They love scenic spots where they can capture their memories, which will be set to music on a DVD or made into a family scrapbook when they return home.
Green Brainers prefer to travel with immediate family members who share the same interest in what they are going to experience. They enjoy investigatory or educational tours of significant historic events and museums. They have a system for packing their suitcases and only pack the essentials. They do their research and impart detailed facts and figures to their family members about points of interest on their journey, which they have located and downloaded into their navigational global positioning system (GPS).
Orange Brainers love spontaneous Road Trips. They find unfamiliar or exotic places and meeting new people exciting. Shopping for and purchasing what they need is almost as much fun as the trip. Their accommodations do not have to be fancy; however, if they have the means, they will spend the money for the best. A spur of the moment Road Trip is the perfect escape from the boredom of their daily routine. They will get in the car and continue driving until they find a place that looks interesting and fun for their family.

Happy Father's Day!
Sonora Dodd thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Sonora wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart, a Civil War veteran, who was widowed when her mother died while giving birth to their sixth child. Mr. Smart raised his children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington state. As an adult, Sonora realized her father's love, courage and selflessness as a single parent. Since her father was born in June, the first Father's Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington June 19, 1910. President Calvin Coolidge, in 1924, supported the idea of a national Father's Day. Then in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day. President Richard Nixon signed the law which finally made it permanent in 1972.
The following are ideas to help you select the perfect gifts for a special Dad on Father's Day.

Alexander I. Newman, was a "Green Brain" mechanical engineer, an inventor of 26 laboratory equipment patents, a philanthropist and the building chairman of many community projects. His achievements were copious. However, none were as significant as the father he was to me and Jordan and "Poppy" to his grandchildren. Below is his favorite anonymous thought-provoking poem.
I stood on the streets of a busy town, Watching men tearing a building down. With a ho, heave ho, and a lusty yell, They swung a beam - and a side wall fell! I asked a foreman of the crew, "Are those men as skilled as those You'd hire if you wanted to build?"
"Ah, no" he said, "no, indeed, Just common labor is all I need. I can tear down as much in a day or two As it would take skilled men a year to do."
And then I thought as I went on my way, Just which of these two roles am I trying to play? Have I walked life's road - with care; Measuring each deed with rule and square, Or am I one of those who roams the town, Content with the labor of - tearing down? |
