World Diabetes Day and the Dangers of Statins!!
World Diabetes Day 2024
Today is an opportunity to raise awareness about diabetes, which is a deadly world-wide public health issue. Health care needs to to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and management of this 24/7 and “never get a break” or remission disease.
Why I am writing this
I am writing this blog post because it is my opinion that my loved one died from type 1 diabetes and an deadly adverse reaction to a statin drug. I want others to heed this warning, share this post, and save a life!
American Diabetes Association Standard of Care
Did you know that in the American Diabetes Association, in their 2009 Standard of Care , indicated and recomended statins for people with diabeties when they became 40 years of age? Please read the link above. I learned about this Standard of Care from a member of the Endocrine Society.
No Warning of Dangerous Side Effects and Deadly Adverse Reactions
The problem is that doctors, specifically endocronologists, do not warn their patients about the dangerous side effects and deadly adverse reactions of statin drugs. I began learning about the side effects and adverse reactions when a friend of mine, who is a pharmacist, sent me the following article: Statins and Depression: Too Much of a Good Thing?
No Help from JDRF or the ADA
I contacted the Juvenile Diabetes Association (JDRF) and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to ask them to put a warning on their websites for their members. NEITHER organization was willing to post a warning for their members, probably because many of their sponsors are pharmacutical companies that manufacture diabetes supplies. I realized they were not interested in education; they were more interested in the money. How sad and disappointing. When you log onto their sites the first thing you see is “make a donation”, not education!
Dangerous Side Effects and Deadly Adverse Reactions
What Are the Side Effects of Statins? has serveral lists in the article. However, none of them state or warn the reader about the dangerous adverse reactions of depression and suicide.
Largest selling drug
Statins are the largest selling drug in the US and the world. However, there are no printed WARNINGS about this drug! I also learned more about other statin risks of adverse reactions, such as rhabdomyolysis (injury or death of muscle tissue), damage to the liver and kidneys, and loss of memory, attention, concentration, depression, and irritability from Dr. Beatrice Golumb’s website.
Closing thoughts
It has taken me a long time to write this article becasue it is heart-breaking. This year, I knew I had to help others. My Blue Brain and Heart would like to encourage you to read as much as you can about statins and heed my advice. Dr. Irene Campbell-Taylor, who is a highly respected Canadian physician and clinical neurologist taught me that statin drugs were developed for people who were genetically predesposed to high cholesteral, NOT THE GENERAL PUBLIC! Please don’t let anybody you love take a statin without knowing about its possible adverse reactions! Please heed my warning, share this post, and save a life!
Please Spread the Word
Thank you, Sheila. I do take a statin and plan to have a serious conversation with the physician who prescribed it.
