Unique Book for Children with Type 1 Diabetes Now In JDRF Bag of Hope!

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. Today, my Orange Brain Excited and my Yellow Brain is Honored to announce that Purr-fect Pals: A Kid, A Cat & Diabetes, which is my unique picture, activity, and resource book for children and their families who live with the challenges of diabetes, is now part of the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Bag of Hope!

Until research is successful in finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), JDRF is committed to providing support and resources for those living with T1D. It is for this reason that JDRF, the leading global organization funding T1D research, created the Bag of Hope, a resource containing educational and inspirational materials, including my, dear friend, Carol Cramer’s Rufus, the Bear with Diabetes®. The Bag of Hope is offered free to newly diagnosed youth and their families by JDRF and the program sponsor is Roche Diagnostics. Bags of Hope are distributed to JDRF chapters and to children’s hospitals so they can be given to the newly diagnosed children and their families to offer them immediate comfort, education, and care.

Purr-fect Pals is dear to my Blue Heart because our elder son has been living T1D (Type 1 Diabetes) for 32 years, this month.

My picture book story is told through the experiences of two main characters, a Kid (our son) and a Cat (our cat), who learn to live with every day, challenging “highs and lows” of their diabetes. The characters’ mirror images and the sequence of events teach children they are not alone. Readers realize that they can achieve their heart’s desire and overcome obstacles, turning them into life-long opportunities.

100% of the proceeds from the sale of Purr-fect Pals is donated to the JDRF Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation!

The Kid and the Cat in the book assist children’s understanding about Type 1 Diabetes, help them accept a different lifestyle, enhance how they express their feelings and encourage nonjudgmental communication about their concerns.

Children and adults will enjoy the one-of-a-kind Purr-fect Pals story, interactive Readers’ and Listeners’ Guide, Kids’ Encouraging Messages from Kids who are 10 to 90 years of age, the Comfort Companion Stories for parents and caregivers, fun Word Games and my Mom’s Message! Children can all color in the black and illustrations to personalize the characters and the story.

Praise for Purr-fect Pals!

Below is a lovely thank you message from a mother whose little girl has T1D. Her cousin sent her copy of  Purr-fect Pals when she learned her little girl and her family were learning to live with the challenges of T1D.
