Unhappy Traveler on United Airlines and Amtrak

My Blue Brain is normally not a complainer, but I must write this post to vent my unhappy traveler experience!

In March, I booked  a flight on United Airlines to Washington, DC to celebrate my cousin’s 50th surprise birthday party. I enjoyed a lovely weekend with my family and then took the Amtrak Acela Express Business Class train from Washington, DC to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a business meeting with my publisher in New Jersey. Then I would fly back to Chicago on United Airlines.

My Green Brain researched the best flights and train schedule online. Amtrak and United both advertised a partnership “Now, Amtrak and United Airlines are teaming up to provide the ultimate in seamless travel.”  I have traveled by train between Washington, DC and Philadelphia several times and have always enjoyed the experience… UNTIL NOW!

The “seamless travel” that is supposed to give you miles on United from your Amtrak travel unraveled and did not work. I have made 4 phone calls to United Airlines and now I am on hold with my 4th phone call to Amtrak to possibly get this issue resolved

I know it is not a big deal and it is not too many miles. However, my Yellow Brain knows it is the principle of the matter. My Orange Brain determined terrier personality is digging in and holding on until I get answer, which will resolve this issue.

While I am writing this blog post, my phone call has been on hold waiting for the Amtrak customer service representative, who finally returned to my phone call and told me there is nothing she could do for me. After 30 minutes with United and 36 minutes with Amtrak and my 8th phone call about this issue,  I am going to shred my Amtrak confirmation sheet and complete this blog post with this warning…

If you want “seamless travel” between United Airlines and Amtrak…
BEWARE OF UNCLEAR DIRECTIONS AND POLICIES!!

Now, that I have written this post and forewarned my readers, my Blue Brain is feeling more harmonious and less hassled!

Sheila – I am writing this response from San Diego as we speak. My flight arrangements through American were by no means, flawless. In fact, there’s quite a large-sized fly in the ointment! I can’t beging to tell you how much time I’ve used on the phone (to no avail) and on the website (to no avail) to try to resolve the issue.

Laurie, I guess we are in the same “boat” when it comes to poor customer service from the airlines. Wishing you a safe and comfortable journey home!
