Do You Have A Timely and Timeless Mission Statement?

Mission Statement according to The The Business Dictionary is as follows: A written declaration of an organization’s core purpose and focus that normally remains unchanged over time.

When people develop a business plan, one of their Yellow Brain Tasks in the planning process is to create their Mission Statement, which is a Green Brain Logical statement that sets forth the goals and values of the organization.

In 1952, my parents (Alexander I. and Sylvia Newman), founded Lab-Line Instruments, Inc., which was a laboratory instrument business. The Lab-Line Mission Statement was printed in capital letters at the top of each bi-monthly HI-LITER Newsletter that was written by a team of Yellow Dedicated, Orange Resourceful, Green Fact-Finding, and Blue Creative employees.

My father, who was a Green Brain mechanical engineer, wrote the company’s Mission Statement. It spoke to his personal commitment and his company’s promise to the employees, the customers, and the people whose lives would be saved by the Lab-Line laboratory equipment.

I love reading the Precise Green Brain words that created my the Lab-Line Mission Statement. OBJECTIVES, CONSISTENTLY, EFFECTIVELY, and PROFIT continue to a resonate with me when I think about how I have applied my father’s words and thought about my core purpose and focus in my professional and personal life.

I know that the Lab-Line Missions Statement has lasted the test of time and rings true now, as it did 65 years ago, and 40 years, today, after my father’s passing.

THE OBJECTIVE OF LAB-LINE SHALL BE TO PROVIDE THE SCIENTISTS WITH THE BEST-MADE, BEST-PERFORMING, AND MOST MODERN INSTRUMENTS TO DO HIS WORK; TO PROVIDE JOBS AND JOB SECURITY FOR THOSE WHO APPLY THEMSELVES CONSISTENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY TO THEIR JOBS; AND TO MAKE A PROFIT TO CONTINUE ITS OPERATIONS AND MAINTAIN ITS OBJECTIVES.

Now is it your turn to use your Brain Colors. Experiment and see how you can fill in the blanks in the statement below for your professional and/or personal Mission Statement.

The objective of ___________________________ shall be to provide___________________________ with the best- ___________, best-________ and most____________________ to do ___________ work and provide____________________ and _______________ security for ______________________________ apply________________________consistently and effectively to _________________________________ job and to make a profit to continue _________________________________ and maintain_____________________________________________ objectives.

Writing and practicing an authentic and applicable Mission Statement is “No Bunk” (or nonsense), as my father would have said! Gook Luck!

Great Mission statement creation tool! Until you addressed the issue, I haven’t thought about mission statements for almost 17 years of retirement.
    Thanks Sheila 🙂
