Legend of The Engagement Ring

Today is “Blue Brain Romantic Day”… 44 years ago, precisely at 9:30pm Jordan and I became engaged.

I vividly remember sitting in the foyer on the bottom step to the upstairs of our home with my mother. We were eagerly awaiting the outcome of the conversation between my father and Jordan.

I can recall how much my stomach ached from laughing when Jordan shared my father’s remark,
when he said, “I would like to marry Sheila.”

And my practical Green Brain” father (a mechanical engineer with a quirky sense of humor) replied,
“What do you want to do that for?”

Of course, my father gave his “traditional” permission and blessings. It was not a big surprise, Jordan and I had been dating for over 2 years. My parents knew it was only a matter of time before he popped the question.

Below is an vintage Polaroid picture that captured the moment.

With this ring upon your finger
And his love within your heart,
May you find the happiness you feel
Will only be the start
Of even greater happiness
To come to both of you
Through all These days of planning
And forever after, too!

The poem was on the cover of the Hallmark card my friend,
Alice Kaufman gave me.

On the inside of the card was the “Legend of the Engagement Ring.”

How little we knew about love and life 44 years ago.
My answer is “Yes, Jordan!”
We’ve enjoyed an amazing journey and I’d do it all over again!

Thanks you! However, I think you are prejudice because of the “Newman Sense of Humor.” Love and hugs for a Happy Passover.
