Kristallnacht – Sesame Street -The Berlin Wall

Between yesterday, November 9th, and today, Nov 10th, many of us have acknowledge historic events, which have had an impact and left and imprint on our lives

Today and yesterday, marked the 71th anniversary of Kristallnacht, “The spark that ignited the Holocaust.”

Yesterday, marked the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall “The Blockade of the Cold War.”

German Chancellor Merkel said the Nazi pogroms and the Berlin Wall serve as reminders. She said both show that freedom cannot grow and flourish on its own, “it has to be fought for and it must always be defended.”… The crowd was full of young people and the message for them from past and present political leaders was that many walls – both physical and mental – remain to this day, walls and barriers to be broken down no matter where they exist.

Today, marked the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street.  “An experiment” that changed how children learn.

Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets of Sesame Street said, “There is a sense of our characters caring for each other and respecting each other. A positive feeling. A positive view of life. That’s the key to everything we do.”

Each astonishing and indelible anniversary can encourage
us to make a determined effort to remember and learn
that we can
break the blockades of prejudice,intolerance,
hunger, fear, and ignorance and construct a greater sense of
appreciation and respect for ourselves and others, in our lives,
our families, our communities, our country or our world!
