Inclusion and Diveristy Lessons – Learn to be an ALLY!

Department of the Interior

I have been developing a What Color Is Your Brain?® Program for the Department of the Interior’s Ally and Enrichment Week (WEEW) 2022.

I have been honored to work with Patricia Jones, who is the founder of (WEEW) and the Program Coordinator, Diversity Change Agent, DCA Recruiter and Facilitator at Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).

Patricia’s Quote

I love Patricia’s quote “Anyone can be an ALLY, and everyone needs an ALLY, at some point in their life.” Patricia’s quote is meaningful, relevant, and significant for all of us to remember. It reminds us “Collaborate” with others to create more harmony, inclusivenss, and respect in our communities, workplaces, schools, and homes!

Collaboration Program

My program will focus on “Collaboration” between individuals, the bureaus of the Interior, and their business partners. The DOI includes the following 11 difdferent Bureaus:
1. Bureau of Indian Affairs
2. Bureau of Indian Education
3. Bureau of Land Management
4. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management
5. Bureau of Reclamation
6. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement
7. Bureau of Trust Funds Administration
8. National Park Service
9. Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement
10. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
11. U.S. Geological Survey

Important Inclusion Lessons

Patricia asked me to include text in the notes sections of my PowerPoint slides for the captioners, who will be preparing to interpret live for the individuals who are hearing impaired, durin my 90 minute program.  I also added labels to all 4 of the Brain Color Lobes in my logo just in case we have people who have visual impairment issues with colors.

Final Thoughts

People come into our lives to teach us lessons. I am most grateful to Patricia for teaching me to be more aware of the individuals who are in my programs. From now  on, I will be sure to speak with my client about individuals who might be hearing or visually impaired. I appreciate Patricia and the inclulsion and diveristy lessons I have learned to be an ALLY to my clients and program attendees!
