I Became An “Author Orphan”!!

An “Author Orphan”
On April 10th, I was shocked to learn that my publisher, since 2006, was closing their book department. I had just become an “Author Orphan”. I felt like an orphan who does not have any surviving parent to care for them. I no longer had a publisher to take care of me and my books!
Referral
I was referred to one of the “Big 5” international publishers, who was interested in publishing What Color Is Your Brain?®. However, my Yellow Brain was most uncomfortable with the editor’s 3 week delay whenever ever she responded to my emails. I knew her tardiness would hinder a respectful and productive working relationship.
Looking for a new publisher
I called my friend, Skip Weiss, who is the publisher of the award-winning Chicago Health and Caregiving magazines and ask him if he knew any book publishers. I explained that I looking for a new publisher, since I had become an “Author Orphan“. Skip immediately referred me to Kira Henschel. I trusted Skip’s praise about Kira and did my Green Brain Research to learn everything I could about Kira on her website, before I called her. I was delighted that she is a woman business owner and I was impressed with her educational and business accomplishments.
Meet my remarkable new publisher

Kira Henschel is an award-winning publisher. She founded HenschelHAUS Publishing in 2002 after working as production manager at a small, independent press, preparing textbooks for McGraw Hill, Prentice-Hall, and 16 academic journals.

She holds a master’s degree in Engineering Management and bachelors’ degrees in Geology and International Relations. Ever the entrepreneur, Kira established a technical translation agency and was asked to help translate books from German to English on a wide range of topics.
A perfect “Brainbow” team
Kira and I make an perfect team. I am delighted that her “Brainbow” personality is balanced with all her Brain Colors. Kira’s Yellow Brain promptly responds to emails and phone calls. Her Blue Brain is very helpful and communicative, and she understands my Creative Blue Brain. Kira’s Green Brain is a knowledgeable and logical problem solver. Finally, Kira’s Orange Brain is resourceful and entreprenurial!
Next book
Kira and I have decided that our first collaboration will be a 2nd edition of What Color Is Your Brain?® that will include updates to the 2008 edition, new research, and more Brain Color Concepts and Clues!
Closing thought
I am excited about collaborating with Kira, who is an extraordianry and thoughtful book coach and a competent and experienced publisher! It is comforting to no longer be an “Author Orphan” because I know my books and I will be well cared for!
