Do Not Teach Tolerance!
We often read articles in newspaper and/or online or hear people say we need to teach tolerance to children and adults.
In my What Color Is Your Brain?® workshops and programs I teach attendees not to be tolerance!
You might be wondering why. The answer is: my What Color Is Your Brain?® approach encourages acceptance, rather than tolerance!
My reasoning is: the definition of tolerance, actually means to “put up with” or “endure” a person, their behavior, or situation.
Personally, I do not think any individual would like another individual to just “put up with” or “endure” them.
I believe most people would want others to acceptance, appreciate, and admire of them.
Below are examples of each the four Brain Color perspectives about tolerance, acceptance, appreciation, and admiration.
Yellow Brainers tolerate disorganization, but they are able to acceptance, appreciate, and admire others’ attributes and abilities to develop exact plans and organize schedules.
Blue Brainers tolerate selfishness, but they are able to acceptance, appreciate, and admire others’ attributes and abilities to collaborate and demonstrate thoughtfulness.
Green Brainers tolerate incompetency, but they are able to acceptance, appreciate, and admire others’ attributes and abilities to skillfully solve problems.
Orange Brainers tolerate rules, but they are able to acceptance, appreciate, and admire others’ attributes and abilities to be flexibility and enjoy camaraderie.
Clients and program attendees have told me that they now pay attention, when they see or hear the work “tolerance.” It is as uncomfortable as fingers on a chalkboard.
Please share this post and definition with others to teach more acceptance, appreciate, and admiration, instead of tolerance!
