Cranky About Civility

Lately, I’ve noticed that I have become cranky about civility. To be precise, I should say that lack of civility!

Civility is defined as courtesy, politeness, a polite act or expression.

I’m  cranky because I miss the civility I grew up with. No, I don’t think it’s just my age. However, I do think it has something to do with the “Yellow Brain” influence on my personalty. “Yellow Brainers” value acting in an appropriate and respectful fashion.

For example: I become cranky when a sales clerk says, “Sign here” and shoves a credit card sales slip at me.

My response to their command is: “Do you known the Magic Word?”

First, shock blankets their face; then an admonished grin appears; followed by a child-like giggle; and finally, a questioning  “Please?!” escapes their lips.

I say, “Thank You” and sign my sales slip, a little less cranky.

I’m curious…. Are you ever cranky about the lack of civility?

    Civility? What’s that?
Civility should be on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, probably at the same level as Actualization. In today’s world, Civility has been confused with the positive effects of implied/applied law enforcement. I can almost guarantee that if the population as a whole were to perceive they would not be held responsible for their actions, a total anarchy/blood-bath would follow.
And a Happy New Year to the Civilized World 🙂

Sorry, to say your statement contains much truth. We’re a different generation!
