Author Is Back from Hiatus with A New Brain Color Book and Diabetes Book!
I am back and feeling better than ever about my hiatus and my two new books! Since my last post Researching and Revising a New Book is More fun on a Summer Porch on July 17th I completed my new Brain Color Book entitled: What Color Is Your Brain? When Caring for Patients: An Easy Approach for Understanding Your Personality Type and Your Patient’s Perspective. The book is available for pre-purchase on my publisher website and on Amazon. The book will be available in February 2015.
My fall book project is a collaboration with former SCBWI-IL member and remarkable illustrator, Rosario Carrillo on my picture/resource book for children with diabetes.
The book is entitled A Kid, A Cat, and Diabetes. The story is about our son, Joshua, who has been dealing with the never-ending challenges of T1D (Type 1 Diabetes) for 28 years and our cat who also had T1D. The book will be a black and white coloring book and will include word games, a glossary, comfort companion stories for parents and care-givers, and “must haves” pages for diabetes management.
On my next birthday, I am going to be 70 years old, and I DO NOT have the time to wait for a publisher because diabetes is an epidemic and there are:
• Approximately 215,000 youngsters (younger than 20 year old) have T1D or T2D or approximately 1 in 400 youngsters.
• 15,600 youngsters (younger than 20 year old) are newly diagnosed with T1D each year.
• 3,600 youngsters (under 20 years of age) are newly diagnosed with T2D each year.
• In the U.S., a new case of diabetes is diagnosed every 30 seconds.
• Diabetes currently affects more than 371,000,000 people worldwide and is expected to affect 552,000,000 by 2030.
I am going to publish the book on CreateSpace, which is Amazon’s Print On Demand. I used CreateSpace to publish the Teacher’s Activity Guide for “Princess Shayna’s Invisible Visible Gift. The process utilized my Methodical Green Brain and challenged my Creative Blue Brain. Now my Excited Orange Brain is eager to share more Yellow Brain Details about this helpful book!
I will be donating ALL THE ROYALTIES to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; and Rosario is donating ALL of her time and illustrations because her son had T2D (Type 2 Diabetes).
We are planning to have the book available for children and their families, who deal with the challenges of T1D and T2D, by November 2014.
November is National Diabetes Month.
