American Diabetes Month

November is American Diabetes Month. A time to focus a significant awareness on diabetes, its deadly complications, and the importance of healthy diabetes management.

Those of you who know me and/or have read my blog before, know I am passionate to find a cure for diabetes and offer encouragement, comfort and education to the children and adults who deal with the challenges and daily “highs” and “lows” of diabetes management.

Diabetes is an insidious silent killer that takes the life of an American every 3 minutes, every day.

This month also marks the 23rd anniversary of our eldest son, Joshua, being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

On October 12th, our friends and neighbors, Ellen and Michael Day and their four sons, sponsored the annual “Jimmy Day’s Team” fund-raising event for the JDRF Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes. The star of the team was Ellen’s and Michael’s youngest son, Jimmy, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, when he was 15 months old. Today, Jimmy is an active 11 year old who loves playing tackle football.

This year’s team theme was “Tackle Diabetes.” Jimmy, his football team, friends and family raised nearly $20,000 which brings their grand total over the years to almost $370.000!

The Glazov Family’s fervent wish for our son, Joshua, is the same as the Day Family’s wish for their son…“Jimmy to be cured, to be free of diabetes.
We want it for Jimmy and we want it for the thousands of courageous children
and adults who fight diabetes every day of their life.”
