Aging Work Force Issues

Recently, received an fascinating email from Isabel DeOliveira, an Industrial Hygienist and OSHA Compliance Safety and Health Officer (CSHO ). I met Isabel when I was presented a What Color Is Your Brain? Workshop at the OSHA office in Avenel, New Jersey. I enjoy and appreciate her many Green Brain attributes and abilities!

Isabel wrote: “Interesting point of view. Thought you might like to read it.”

She included the link to the article entitled: “Use it or lose it” which address aging work force issues.

The article appeared in the online  EHS Today the magazine for Environment, Health and Safety Leaders, stating that at the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP) National Conference in Atlanta, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Director John Howard, M.D. discussed how the aging work force and employee demographic shifts will affect safety and productivity in the future.

Dr. Howard said, “The theory everyone has about keeping the mind active to
stave off cognitive limitation actually has some truth to it,”
he explained. “[The study] gives more support for the idea of
not going into retirement like the old 20th century way of thinking,
where you just stop doing everything.”

I AM IN COMPLETE AGREEMENT!

Three cheers for those of us who continue to work
with “sparkles” in our hair and “wisdom” in our Brain Colors!
