A Special Delivery Celebration

Today marks the 1st Anniversary of a “Special Delivery Celebration!”

On Tuesday, June 19, 2007, a box of 20 books from my publisher, SLACK, Inc., arrived at our home.  It was packed with the first copies of my What Color Is Your Brain? book. 

It’s hard to believe that one year ago today, I tuned my imaginary hearing aids up to their highest level in an attempt to listen for the UPS truck. When I finally heard the familiar rumble approaching our home, I immediate announced its arrival to my husband, our son, Noah, and daughter-in-law, Kelly who were visiting from Brazil with our granddaughter, Yasmin.

Instantly, we all responded. It was as if I had just called the final play for a 4th down to win a championship football game. We resembled defense players for the Chicago Bears, rushing our rival opponents, the Green Bay Packers.


I was first into the end zone, at the end of our driveway. I had to contain myself from jumping
into the truck.I politely greeted the driver on my tip-toes, while my eyes scanned the the box 
atop the driver’s seat.


First, he handed me the wrong package. I could see the return address on the box and told
him, “The package on your driver’s seat is for me.” Then, I eagerly waited for him to finish
computing the delivery information. I felt like a rookie quarterback, awaiting the hand off and 
readying myself to receive the football from the center.


As soon the driver finished his calculation, he dropped the precious parcel into my outstretched
hands. Then, he thought he had given me the wrong box and was about to take it back,
however, I insisted, “This is the correct box!”



I had no words to explain how I felt! Unbelievable, I became silent!
 
 

I attempted to open the box, however the tape and excitement were too much for me to
handle by myself.



My quick thinking thoughtful daughter-in-law, Kelly, brought me a knife and helped me open
the box to reveal the “color-filled” contents.



“Kelly, look, it’s really here! I can hardly believe it! The cover it incredible, better than I imagined!”


I’m finishing this post later than I expected too. I was delayed because Noah and Kelly
called from Brazil, to share another celebration with us… 

Yasmin is going to have a brother or a sister in December!

I will always remember today as a
“Double Special Delivery Celebration!”
