A Memorable Birthday Celebration!

Last Saturday, our eldest son, Joshua, celebrated his 38th birthday. Joshua also shares his birthday with his cousins, Steven Elrod , and  Michelle Glazov Vogel, and with Bill Will the owner Camp Shewahmegon, in Drummond, Wisconsin, which Joshua and Noah attended for many summers as campers and counselors.

Joshua was born July 12, 1970 at 1:50am, which was opening morning of the DuPage Air Show in St. Charles, Illinois. At that time, there were regulated “Fathers” visiting hours at Pasavant Memorial Hospital in Chicago. After Jordan contacted all the family members and friends on our “call list” and spent time with Joshua and me, he was told his “Fathers” visiting hours were over until that evening. Since, I was obviously not going to attend the air show, I encouraged Jordan to go, take picture for me and take movies to show Joshua what was happening on the day he was born.

This year, Joshua called and asked Jordan and I if we would meet him, our daughter-in-law, Sheryl, and grandson, Ashton, at the Morris Airport in Morris, Illinois on his birthday.  

Joshua knew we would enjoy seeing the 
Ford Tri-Motor that was going to be on
display and offering rides on Saturday afternoon. 

It turned out to be a text book “VFR” 
(Visual Flight Rules) July day for flying.



Jordan purchased a Ford Tri-Motor model
for Ashton that he enjoyed playing with,
until he and Joshua boarded the original.



Joshua’s and Ashton’s flight only lasted
20 minutes, but it was exciting and fun
for father and son!!!!! 



After his flight, Joshua’s brother, Noah, and his wife, Kelly, called from Brazil to wish him,
“Parabens a voce!”… Happy Birthday in Portuguese. Cell phones can be a blessing!

Joshua’s 2008 celebration was reminiscent of his 1970 birthday and his childhood, when we spent most summer weekends flying in our 1948 North American Ryan Navion airplane and/or enjoying local air shows.

Our “Memorable Birthday Celebration” in Morris (coincidentally, Joshua’s Maternal Great Grandfather and Paternal Great Grandfather were both named Morris) was a perfection!
