Diabetes Connection

Purr-fect Pals: A Kid, A Cat and Diabetes©
Written and designed as a picture book, Purr-fect Pals: A Kid, A Cat and Diabetes© offers comfort, education and encouragement for children, ages 2-12, who have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. The story is told through the true-to-life experiences of two main characters, a “kid” and a “cat,” who learn to live with the “highs” and “lows” of diabetes. As the characters’ lives mirror one another, the sequence of events teaches children they are not alone, and they can achieve their heart’s desire by transforming life’s obstacles into opportunities.

As a mother who has raised a child with diabetes, I understand a caregiver’s anger, fear, confusion, and frustration when their child is diagnosed with diabetes. I also know the urgency of medical, emotional, and spiritual assistance from family, friends, and health care professionals. Therefore, I have included “Comfort Companion” stories as a source of strength and encouragement, to accompany caregivers, on their tenuous journey with diabetes.
