Sheila's Family Story   Hail Princess Shayna!   Purr-fect Pals

While Princess Shayna offers much of value for kids of all ages, Purr-fect Pals: A Kid, A Cat and Diabetes©, is a picture book written and designed to offer comfort, education and encouragement to younger children (ages 2-12) who have Type I and Type II diabetes. The story is told through the true-to-life experiences of two main characters, a "kid" and a "cat," who learn to live with the "highs" and "lows" of diabetes. As the characters' lives mirror one another, the sequence of events teaches children they are not alone, and they can achieve their heart's desire by transforming life's obstacles into opportunities.

As a mother who has raised a child with diabetes, I understand a caregiver's anger, fear, confusion, and frustration when their child is diagnosed with diabetes. I also know the urgency of medical, emotional, and spiritual assistance from family, friends, and health care professionals. Therefore, I have included "Comfort Companion" stories as a source of strength and encouragement, to accompany caregivers, on their tenuous journey with diabetes.

A Purr-fect Project

Alarmingly, each year an increasing number of children are diagnosed with diabetes. The goal of the Purr-fect Pals Project is to provide those children and their families with a Purr-fect Pals: A Kid, A Cat and Diabetes book, companion "Cat" (plush toy) and diabetes medical ID bracelet, to help them understand and manage the many challenges of diabetes.

Whether you have a personal stake in diabetes management or are a member of an organization committed to helping children with diabetes, the Purr-fect Pals Project offers you a unique, one-of-a-kind patient and family support program and "good-will" marketing opportunity within the diabetes community.
