Sheila's Family Story Hail Princess Shayna! Purr-fect Pals Welcome to the Diabetes Connection, a resource dedicated to making a "connection" with families dealing with the "highs" and "lows" of diabetes management. Sheila is committed to increasing community awareness about diabetes and allocating funds for diabetes research and education. 10% of the royalties from the sale of What Color Is Your Brain?® will be allocated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The Diabetes Connection offers personal insights, stories, information, and the opportunity for you to connect with those who share many of the same experiences. I have first-hand knowledge and experience with the many challenges diabetes creates. My father (of blessed memory) developed Type II diabetes when he was sixty-five years old. In 1985, my eldest son, Joshua, was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when he was fifteen years old. (Even our family cat, Luke Skywalker, developed Type I diabetes when he was thirteen years old and lived to be eighteen!) As you can see, I have some personal history on the subject!
If you or a loved one live with this chronic disease, you know the numerous challenges you and your family face—the tough decisions, the stressful issues, the countless "highs" and "lows." I've discovered significant ways to find comfort through my family's history with diabetes.
