Princess Shayna: A New & Original Children’s Musical

My Orange Brain is excited to tell everyone about my Grand News!

This morning, Anna Berman, the Executive Director and owner of Trilogy School of Performing Arts in Lake Zurich, Illinois and I signed our agreement for the first original musical performance of Princess Shayna’s Invisible Visible Gift.

The director of the play is Kim Woycke. Kim graduated from New York University where she studied at musical theater CAP21 and received a BFA in Theater. She has trained in voice, acting, and dance (musical theater, tap, jazz, ballet, modern) for over 15 years.  She has performed in New York, Milwaukee and Chicago.

Kim and 15 students, grades 5th – 8th grade, are “workshoping” the book, creating their own interpretations for the story line and developing an original script of my family fairy tale.

Ever since Princess Shayna’s first publication in 1997 and recently with the 2nd edition publication in September 2011, children, parents and teachers have continually said, “This book would make a fantastic musical.”

Their words are now a reality and my 14 year long dream has come true!

I have asked Kim to keep a journal and record how the student are “workshoping” the production. My request was to document the progress and creative process of the play. Each week, I will write a blog post including Kim’s notes. My blog post will enable my readers, and the Trilogy performers and their parents to enjoy reading about this incredible experience! This  living progress report will become a permanent record of the student’s accomplishments and their Praiseworthy Gifts!

This morning, I received a message from Kim and immediately knew she understood the essence of Princess Shayna. Kim wrote: “I felt it was important that we develop a safe and encouraging environment where we can work together to create without judgment.”

I also will be write additional blog post to share more of my personal experiences with you.

Stay tuned… more to come about Princess Shayna’s mucial performance journey!
